Aptos to Challenge Solana as Leading Layer-1 Platform
According to BitMEX CEO Arthur Hayes, Aptos has the potential to surpass Solana as the second-largest Layer-1 blockchain platform within the next one to three years. Hayes believes that Aptos' Move programming language and focus on real-world problem-solving will drive its adoption.
Meme Coins Remain Relevant, Dogecoin ETF Expected
Hayes also discussed the staying power of meme coins, describing them as the "luxury brand" of crypto. He anticipates the arrival of a Dogecoin ETF by the end of the current market cycle, citing its status as the oldest meme coin and availability on popular platforms. However, he noted that most meme coins lack substantial long-term cultural value.
Crypto Custodians Face Elevated Risk
Hayes highlighted the increasing threat of hacks in the crypto market. He believes that the hacking of a major crypto custodian within the next two to three years could jeopardize the current market cycle, resulting in the loss of $50-$100 billion in digital assets.
Aptos' Time to Shine
Hayes predicts that Aptos will emerge as a major competitor to Solana in the next few years. While previous predictions have suggested Solana's potential to overtake Ethereum, Hayes believes that Aptos is well-positioned to disrupt the Layer-1 rankings.
