Crypto.com Secures VASP Approval in Ireland

The Central Bank of Ireland (CBI) has approved Crypto.com, one of the leading cryptocurrency exchanges globally, as a Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP).

Crypto.com's VASP status in Ireland allows the company to offer expanded services, including crypto-to-fiat exchanges and fiat wallets.

Eric Anziani, President and Chief Operating Officer of Crypto.com, emphasized the company's commitment to compliance and innovation. He stated, "We are thrilled to enhance our offerings in Ireland, empowering consumers with our comprehensive crypto product suite."

Ireland has now approved 15 entities as VASPs. Crypto.com joins a growing group of reputable crypto firms in the country, including Coinbase and Ripple.

Key Highlights

• 14 VASPs were previously registered in Ireland as of June 7, including Gemini and Standard Chartered's Zodia.
• In 2023, seven companies received VASP approvals, with four more approved in 2024.
• Coinbase selected Ireland as its European crypto hub in late 2023 for compliance purposes.
• Ripple and Gemini have also increased their presence in Ireland while facing regulatory challenges in the U.S.
• Circle Internet Financial plans to return to the U.S. and exit Ireland in May 2024.
