Memecoins celebrated humor. They depicted characters from real life that became close to many people. Cheems Balltze, the dog behind the viral images of Shiba Inu 

breathed his last on August 18th, 2023. The 12-year-old dog was battling cancer and died peacefully in his sleep.

Crypto users also knew him by the nickname “Ball Ball”. The Shiba Inu is a dog breed and it became quite popular after its adoption as a meme coin. The dog appeared as the face of Shiba Inu as well as Dogecoin. The latter even got attention from Elon Musk. A post was shared on Balltze’s Instagram page informing about his death.

The post reminisced about the dog and the joy that it brought to people’s life. It stated that the humble dog brought smiles to many people’s faces. It asked people not to be sad and to remember him for all the happiness he brought. But there’s another dog that appeared on the coin.

Kabosu, the one that featured in the meme on which Dogecoin was based is alive and kicking. He’s expected to celebrate his 18th birthday in October and is facing some health issues. The Doge meme got viral in 2013 and inspired Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer to create a token on it. The Dogecoin Foundation shared a post mourning the demise of the beloved dog.
