Dogecoin Co-Creator Billy Markus Witnesses Significant Return on Early Cryptocurrency Investments
Billy Markus, the co-creator of Dogecoin known as Shibetoshi Nakamoto, has experienced a substantial increase in the value of Dogecoin tokens he sold years ago.
According to data from on-chain analytics firm Lookonchain, Markus's early $DOGE tokens have risen in value to approximately $9 million. These tokens were reportedly sold in 2015 for around $10,000.
Early Sale of $DOGE Leads to Substantial Gains
The remarkable increase in the value of Markus's sold $DOGE tokens indicates a significant rise in the coin's price since his initial sale. The tokens have gained an impressive 900 times their original value, translating to a current worth of $9 million.
Markus notably used the proceeds from the sale to purchase a car. While the current value of the tokens represents a substantial return, it would have reached an even higher peak of $45 million in 2021.
Ongoing Profitability from Free Tokens
Despite selling his Dogecoin early on, Markus has remained an active member of the cryptocurrency community. He has developed multiple wallets to receive free tokens, which he subsequently sells for profit.
Lookonchain estimates that Markus has earned approximately $780,000 from the sale of such tokens. Notably, he recently made a significant sale of BabyNero, netting 12.2 $BNB worth approximately $7,243.
