Within the Dogecoin community, a thought-provoking question emerged from a key figure: "What's the stupidest thing you've ever done?" This prompted Dogecoin co-founder Billy Markus (aka Shibetoshi Nakamoto) to reveal his biggest regret: selling his DOGE in 2015.
Financial Woes and a Difficult Decision
In 2015, Markus distanced himself from Dogecoin due to shifts in the community's dynamics. Amidst financial concerns, he made the difficult decision to liquidate all his crypto assets, including Dogecoin.
Specifically, facing job loss and dwindling savings, he sold off his crypto holdings for a sum that covered the purchase of a used Honda Civic.
Post-Sale Status
Markus has clarified that he no longer owns any significant amount of Dogecoin, except for a small portion he recently sold.
Despite leaving the project, Markus retains a prominent presence in the crypto world. With over two million followers on X (formerly Twitter), his influence within the crypto community remains. However, he has consistently stated his non-involvement in any current cryptocurrency endeavors.
The Fluctuating Fortune of DOGE
Currently, DOGE trades at $0.0945, significantly higher than its 2015 value, representing a percentage gain in the tens of thousands. However, it remains 87.28% below its peak in 2021, highlighting the inherent volatility of crypto trading.
