Billy Markus Hopes Dogecoin Surpasses IBM in Market Cap
Billy Markus, the co-creator of the iconic meme cryptocurrency Dogecoin, has expressed tongue-in-cheek aspirations for the coin's value.
Markus, known as Shibetoshi Nakamoto on social media, recently tweeted his desire for Dogecoin to reach a market capitalization exceeding $210.27 billion, surpassing that of IBM. "It would be worth more than any place I've ever worked at, which would be funny," he quipped.
Despite his ironic remarks, Markus has consistently emphasized his preference for staying out of active cryptocurrency involvement and simply observing the market. He has repeatedly stated that he has no plans to create any new cryptocurrencies, meme or otherwise.
Markus's only active involvement in the crypto space remains Dogecoin, which currently ranks among the top ten cryptocurrencies largely due to the support of Elon Musk and the growing popularity of memes online.
When questioned about the sustainability of such a high market capitalization in light of the current inflation rate, Markus responded with a GIF stating, "Who knows?!"
Dogecoin Inches Towards $0.43
On Friday, Dogecoin experienced an initial surge of 8.78%, rising from $0.4006 to $0.447. This was followed by a slight decline before another attempt to test the $0.4350 level.
Markus commented on the price movements, tweeting, "dogecoin doing more dogecoin things."
At the time of writing, DOGE is trading at $0.4380.
