Elon Musk Denies Russian Forces’ Use of Starlink

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has denied recent media reports suggesting that its Starlink satellite internet terminals are being sold to Russia amid its conflict with Ukraine. Musk categorically refuted these claims, stating that they are untrue.

Over the weekend, reports emerged suggesting that Russian troops, including units like the 83rd Air Assault Brigade, were using Starlink terminals in the eastern region of Donetsk, where they are engaged in conflict with Ukrainian forces.

Elon Musk Addresses Starlink Sales to Russia

Elon Musk clarified that, to the best of SpaceX’s knowledge, no Starlink terminals have been sold directly or indirectly to Russia. He emphasized that Starlink satellites will not establish connections in Russia.

In early 2022, SpaceX gave thousands of Starlink kits to Ukraine to help improve its communication and support its military in staying connected during the conflict with Russia.

However, Ukraine wasn’t entirely happy with Elon Musk. It came to light that Musk had limited access to Starlink for plans involving submarine drones targeting Russian ships near Crimea. He did this to avoid making tensions worse between Russia and Ukraine.

Elon Musk also had some things to say about the situation. He criticized the U.S.’s investment in Ukraine during the war, feeling that the conflict was dragging on without any real progress. He questioned the wisdom of sacrificing young people’s lives without gaining any new territory.
