Upbit Adds Meme Coins PEPE and BRETT to Its Platform
Chinese journalist and blogger Colin Wu reports that Upbit, South Korea's largest cryptocurrency exchange, has listed two new meme coins: PEPE and BRETT. They will be traded against the dollar-backed USDT coin.
PEPE and BRETT: Soaring Prices
PEPE, launched in 2023, is inspired by the popular internet meme character Pepe the Frog. It has gained prominence among investors and is now listed on major exchanges, including Binance. Unlike previous meme coins, PEPE is notable for deviating from the dog breed-themed coins that have dominated the space.
BRETT, released in 2024, takes its name from a character in Matt Fury's "Boy's Club" comic. Binance Futures has launched a BRETTUSDT Perpetual Contract with up to 50x leverage.
Reaction to Upbit Listing
PEPE's price surged over 13% following the Upbit listing, reaching $0.00000816 from $0.00000720 within 24 hours. BRETT, ranked 69th by CoinMarketCap, exhibited an even stronger response, skyrocketing by 25% in the same period, reaching $0.09318.
Justin Sun on Meme Coin Success
Tron blockchain founder Justin Sun emphasized the significance of community in the success of meme coins. He recently discussed the meme ecosystem on Tron with community leaders. Sun announced that these leaders anticipate bringing "millions of users" to the Tron community, eager to join its ecosystem.
