Buterin later burned most of these tokens and donated some to charity, significantly reducing the circulating supply. Dogecoin (DOGE):
Dogecoin was launched in December 2013 by software engineers Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer as a light-hearted response to the growing seriousness around Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. It was meant to be a satirical take on the burgeoning crypto market, featuring Kabosu, a Shiba Inu whose image became the "Doge" meme. Kabosu's photo, taken by her owner Atsuko Sato in 2010, sparked the meme due to its humorous overlay with Comic Sans text expressing simple, exaggerated emotions. Dogecoin quickly gained a community and unexpectedly grew in value, becoming one of the first meme coins to achieve significant market capitalization. It has been endorsed by high-profile individuals like Elon Musk, which has led to price volatility but also increased public awareness. Dogecoin's success paved the way for other meme coins, including Shiba Inu.
