Shibetoshi Nakamoto Comments on HBO's Bitcoin Documentary
Billy Markus, known as Shibetoshi Nakamoto on social media, co-creator of Dogecoin, has weighed in on the HBO documentary "Money Electric: Bitcoin Mystery."
The documentary purported to reveal the identity of the enigmatic Bitcoin creator, Satoshi Nakamoto. However, many early Bitcoiners, including Markus and cypherpunk Adam Back, have disputed the film's conclusions.
The documentary featured several potential candidates for Satoshi Nakamoto and concluded that it was likely Peter Todd, an early Bitcoin developer. Todd has vehemently denied the claim and condemned the director for endangering his safety.
Numerous early Bitcoiners, such as Samson Mow and Adam Back, have tweeted that the true identity of Satoshi will likely remain a mystery. Mow speculates that Satoshi may have realized the implications of Bitcoin's success and chose to remain anonymous to avoid scrutiny.
Markus Shares His Perspective
In 2021, Elon Musk suggested that Nick Szabo could be Satoshi Nakamoto. After the documentary's release, Markus shared his own theory, stating that he believes Bitcoin was created by "Hal Finney and friends." Finney, an early Bitcoin developer, was the recipient of the first BTC transaction from Satoshi.
Commenting on the profound impact of Bitcoin and its creator, Markus responded to a playful tweet by @dogeofficialceo, who claimed to be "Shitoshi Nakapoopoo," with the recognition, "you changed the world forever."
