Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse Criticizes Dogecoin, Emphasizes Practicality in Crypto
Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse believes that the meme token Dogecoin (DOGE) has not been beneficial to the cryptocurrency industry. Speaking at Consensus, Garlinghouse expressed concerns about the lack of regulatory clarity in the United States and the difficulty in predicting institutional investment opportunities.
According to Garlinghouse, the focus of crypto should be on solving real-world problems. He stated, "We have to be about more than speculation... I don't think Dogecoin has been a good thing for the industry. I don't know what the use case is or if there are projects being built to solve real utility."
Despite his criticism of DOGE, Garlinghouse emphasized the importance of real-world applications across various blockchains. At the time of writing, DOGE is trading at $0.159, showing a slight decline over the past 24 hours.
Earlier this week, Ripple gained attention by donating $25 million to Fairshake, a federal political action committee supporting pro-crypto candidates in the upcoming elections. This follows a similar donation made last year.
