Vitalik Buterin, the founder and frontman of the Ethereum blockchain, expressed his condolences on the passing of the legendary Shiba Inu meme dog, Kabosu, via his X social media account.
Vitalik Buterin Pays Tribute to Kabosu
Buterin tweeted, "Rest in peace Kabochan," in response to a tweet from Kabosu's owner, Atsuko Sato (@kabosumama), announcing the Shiba Inu's passing at the age of 19. In 2010, Kabosu gained fame after her photos went viral online. In 2013, inspired by the Doge meme, Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer created the first meme cryptocurrency, Dogecoin (DOGE). Kabosu became the DOGE mascot and soared in popularity alongside the rapidly growing Dogecoin community.

Following Kabosu's passing, prominent figures in the crypto community, including Elon Musk, the official Dogecoin account, and DOGE founder Markus, paid tribute to the beloved dog, sharing the grief of the Dogecoin community.
Vitalik Buterin and the Dogecoin Foundation
Musk tweeted that the dog had "ascended to heaven," while the DOGE creator posted a meme depicting Kabosu conversing with Death, who remarks, "I'm told you were the best."
Buterin's respect for the DOGE community is not new. The Ethereum founder has previously made significant donations to the Dogecoin Foundation. In 2021, Buterin joined the organization with the intention of proposing enhancements to DOGE, including transitioning the currency from a proof-of-work algorithm to a proof-of-stake algorithm.
