Billy Markus, the co-creator of Dogecoin alongside Jackson Palmer in 2013, has shared his thoughts on the potential impact of HBO's "Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery" documentary that premiered earlier today.
While Markus did not speculate on the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, the enigmatic creator of Bitcoin, he expressed concerns that the documentary's revelations could have a negative effect on the price of Bitcoin rather than a bullish one.
"Will Bitcoin Instantly Crash from the Reveal?"
Markus, known online as Shibetoshi Nakamoto on the X platform (formerly Twitter), is an active social media user known for sharing his perspectives on current events, including cryptocurrencies, politics, and taxes. He continues to hold significant influence in the crypto community, with over 2.1 million followers on X.
In a tweet posted earlier today, Markus announced HBO's imminent release of the much-anticipated documentary that claims to unmask the true identity of Satoshi. The film reportedly discusses several potential candidates, including cypherpunk and Blockstream CEO Adam Back, who was referenced in the Bitcoin white paper, Len Sassaman, and former Bitcoin developer Peter Todd.
Markus asked his followers, "Who do you think it is?" However, he also raised a more pressing question: "will bitcoin instantly crash from the reveal?"
HBO's "Satoshi" Revealed, but the Candidate Denies
According to CNN, the documentary identifies Peter Todd as Satoshi. However, Todd has vehemently denied this claim. He has stated that the director of the film is "grasping for straws here," and that he is "playing up a few coincidences into something much more." Todd has further criticized the film for failing to contact him before its release.
Despite Todd's denial, the director remains confident in his conclusions, asserting that "Peter was there that day (in which he was interviewed for the film). He knows what was discussed. He had every opportunity to explain himself."
As for the price of Bitcoin, there has been no observable crash in the past 24 hours. Bitcoin has experienced only a 1.17% decline, which cannot be solely attributed to the documentary's release and Todd's alleged identification as Satoshi.
